Volunteering a few hours per month is an integral part in making a difference for the homeless animals at the humane society; whether you prefer to help with fund raising, special events or aid in helping the animls temporarily residing at the shelter. If you love animals, you will be volunteering at the right place! It can be a very rewarding experience to see an animal become adoptable through your time and energy.
APPLYING TO BE LAKELAND HUMANE SOCIETY VOLUNTEER: 1) Fill out Volunteer Application Form and waivers 2) Choose the volunteer program you wish to participate in 3) Please read each description and criteria carefully 4) Submit your completed application form to: 5) Attend a volunteer orientation The Lakeland Humane Society is open to volunteers: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 8 am - 12 pm & 1:30 pm to 4:30pm Wednesdays: 8 am - 12 pm & 1:30 pm - 6:30 pm Saturdays, Sundays: 8 am - 12 pm & 1 pm - 4 pm VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITES: 1) Splish Splash - this person will help clean out dog and/or cat kennels, wash and dry litter pans, food dishes and laundry, refill food and water dishes and litter pans. Hours for this are 8:30 - 12:00. This person will assist the staff before the shelter opens and is an integral part of our everyday operations. 2) Canine Cruiser - this person will exercise and socialize the dogs by walking and playing with toys 3) Canine Cleaner - this person bathes and grooms dogs on as needed basis to make them more comfortable, and improve their health and adoptability. 4) Canine Coach - this person teaches dogs basic commands which will help improve the adoptability of the dog as well as boost the dogs confidence. 5) Feline Friend - this person aids in brushing, socializing, exercising, petting and playing with the cats and supervising cat/cat interactions to make them more comfortable and adoptable. 6) Bow-Wow Baker - this person provides snacks for activites, meetings, thank-you's, and fundraisers/bake sales. 7) Shelter Savvy - this person assists shelter staff by answering questions of visitors, assisting LHS customers with the adoption application process, matching lost and found animal reports files at the LHS, clean non-animal areas, make up litter boxes, perform adoption and spay/neuter follow-up calls. 8) Events Enthusiast - this person assists at Special Events throughout the year and additional fundraising/awareness programs . 9. Board Member - The Lakeland Humane Society is seeking interested and qualified members of the community to participate in the Societys decision-making and guidance by being part of its Board of Directors. The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in the well-being and role of companion animals in our community. A successful appointment will consist of one to two year term; depending on the position; on our active board. The Board of Directors are expected to attend monthly board meetings and be active in at least two fundraising/special events committees and participate in at least one event during the year. The average time commitment for board members is less than 5 hours per month. Positions needing to be filled: President 2 year term Vice President 2 year term Secretary 2 year term Treasurer 2 year term Director 1 1 year term Director 2 1 year term Director 3 1 year term Director 4 1 year term BOARD MANUAL BOARD APPLICATION It is the belief of the Board that new members will help bring fresh new ideas to Lakeland Humane Society! Any volunteers under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Volunteers are asked for a time commitment of at least one hour per month. The volunteer Coordinator manages the Lakeland Humane Society volunteer program.
