PAWS PROJECT (PROVISIONAL ANIMAL WELFARE SITE)

It is an exciting time for both the animals and the people of the Lakeland area. This past February we received very good news! Encana Oil and Gas has kindly donated a 23’ x 74' modular trailer to the LHS. This versatile unit will be used as a temporary extension to our current services until we are able to build a proper animal care centre. Our feline friends will be housed in the new building with our K9 buddies remaining in their present home. The new area will be more productive offering a small reception are, as well as an all purpose learning center room to use for education programs that promote humane values, responsible pet ownership and spay/neuter. There will be offices and “waiting room for people who wish to adopt there "new family members". Our goal is to have everything in place by late August or early September. There are many ways that you could get involved in this wonderful opportunity; volunteering for work parties, raising funds, providing donated professional services, equipment and furnishings and so much more! With your community support, commitment, and involvement, we CAN meet our goal and give our animals a better chance for a ‘new leash on life’! Contact us at 594-1896 for more information.

The Lakeland Humane Society would like to thank the sponsors, donors, participants, volunteers, and supporters of our 4th Annual Hoof-A-Thon on June 24th. Your support helped us double our participation and to raise almost $3,400.

DOG AREA RENOVATIONS

On September 13th, and 14th; thanks to Alberta Lottery Fund, The City of Cold Lake, Lakeland Credit Union, Cold Lake Kinettes, and the Lakeland United Way; LHS was able to renovate the inside dog area of the shelter. The renovation consisted of removing 11 of the old dog kennels and replacing them with 15 new and more attractive dog kennels. LHS also replaced the lighting in the dog area making it easier to view the dogs when they are inside.
